Chettinad Pepper Prawn Masala

This is very simple and easy to prepare dish. I adapted this recipe from here and made few changes according to my taste.




Warning : This is a very spicy dish vary the spices according to your spice level


Marination Ingredients :
250grams - Tesco Jumbo Raw King Prawns
1/2 tsp      - Turmeric
As Needed - Salt

Raw Ingredients :
2 Cups.  - Onions ( I Used Red )
3/4 tbsp - Chopped Ginger
3/4 tbsp - Chopped Garlic
1 Sprig - Curry Leaves
2 tbsp - Oil

Dry Roast Ingredients :

2 tbsp - Peppercorns
1 tbsp - Coriander Seeds
1 tsp   - Cumin Seeds
1 tsp.  - Fennel Seeds

1. Marinate Raw prawns with turmeric and salt for 15 mins or more.
2. Dry Roast the ingredients mentioned in the dry ingredients list for few minutes.
3. In the same pan, add oil then onions fry until they are transparent .
4. Add  ginger and garlic for to onions fry for few more minutes and then transfer the contents to a blender , wait until onion mixture is cooled .
5. Powder the dry roast ingredients finely, now to this powder add onions mixture and blend smoothly.
6. Now heat remaining 1 tbsp oil in a pan , add curry leaves and let them sizzle.
7. Add the masala to pan and fry until the raw smell goes off.
8. Now add the raw prawns to masala close the lid and cook for 8 mins.Now add 1/2 cup water to the mixture snd close the lid ,cook for 8 mins.
9.  Curry is done at this point if you want more gravy. But if you are looking for semi-dry dish then after 8 mins remove the lid fry the prawn masala for 5 mins then switch off hob.
